Frederick Lewis Nail, 73, Dies After Courageous Battle With Pancreatic Cancer
Frederick Lewis Nail, a lifelong Missouri resident and retired MFA Agri employee, passed away at his home in Martinsville, Missouri, on Monday, May 4, 2026, after fighting a determined but ultimately losing battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on October 13, 1952, to Freddie and Helen Louise Nail, Frederick—known affectionately as Fred, Freddie, or Fritz—graduated from Martinsville High School in 1970 and married Connie Sue Hill on August 27, 1971. He retired from MFA Agri in 2010 and dedicated his later years to farming and raising Hereford cattle, despite the challenges posed by half longhorn calves.
A Life Marked by Dedication, Family, and the Outdoors
Fred cherished the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and archery, and was deeply involved in supporting his family’s activities. He never missed a band concert or a softball game featuring his grandchildren.
He took special pride in the quality and quantity of hay produced each year on his farm. Known for his tenacity and warm spirit, Frederick maintained strong ties with his family and community, surviving alongside his wife Connie, their son Brad Nail, daughter-in-law Angie, and grandchildren Brayden and Andrea Nail, all of Eagleville, Missouri.
Community and Final Arrangements
Frederick is also survived by his siblings Susie (Jim) Parker, Bruce (Karen) Nail, and Rob (Robin) Nail, as well as brother-in-law Tim Hill, and an extended network of friends and relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, at Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany, Missouri, followed by burial at Isabelle Cemetery in Worth County.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Isabelle Cemetery or the Harrison County Cancer Transportation Fund.
“Cancer is a cruel and unforgiving disease,” the family notes, honoring Fred’s brave battle through years of illness.
This loss underscores the urgent need for continued cancer research and support for affected families nationwide. Frederick’s fight and devotion to loved ones leave a lasting legacy in his community and beyond.
