North Texas Bobcat Attack Leaves Small Dog Seriously Injured but Surviving

Bobcat Attack Terrifies North Texas Family as Small Dog Survives Severe Injuries

FRISCO, Texas — A family’s Easter Sunday turned harrowing when a wild bobcat jumped into their backyard and attacked their small dog, a 2-year-old Yorkshire terrier named Ariel. The terrifying encounter lasted only moments but left the dog with deep wounds and the family shaken.

Claudia Asberry, Ariel’s owner, recounted the tense scene that unfolded after church that day. She had brought Ariel to her daughter’s home in Frisco so the dog could enjoy time outside. “She loves the backyard,” Asberry said. “She thinks she owns the backyard.”

Attack Caught on Video as Bobcat Snatches Dog

Suddenly, Asberry heard a scream and rushed outside to witness a bobcat biting into Ariel. The wild animal had jumped over the backyard fence and grabbed Ariel in its jaws. Family members screamed and scrambled in panic, captured in video footage recorded during the attack.

“She just looked lifeless just lying there,” said Asberry, reflecting on the moment her family pulled Ariel away.

Ariel’s life was saved when her son-in-law charged at the bobcat, forcing the animal to release her. Despite appearing unresponsive at first, the dog remains alive but was badly wounded.

Emergency Treatment and Ongoing Recovery

The family rushed Ariel to an emergency veterinarian where vets treated several deep wounds to her neck and another injury to her stomach. Experts confirmed Ariel is expected to make a full recovery, though the attack was frightening and life-threatening.

Bobcat Sightings Rising Across Expanding Suburbs

Wildlife authorities warn that bobcat sightings and attacks on small pets are increasing as suburban development pushes into natural animal habitats. Pets, especially small breeds, are at risk even in fenced yards, officials caution.

“Even if you’re visiting people, still just don’t leave your small pets alone,” Asberry urged, hoping other families learn from the horrifying incident.

Public Safety Reminder for Pet Owners Nationwide

As urban areas continue expanding, North Carolinians and families across the United States should be aware of similar wildlife threats. Experts recommend constant supervision of small pets outdoors and not assuming fences prevent wild animals from intruding.

This recent attack underscores the growing need for vigilance as interactions between people and wildlife escalate across expanding residential areas.

The Asberry family’s ordeal is a sobering reminder that danger can strike suddenly, but swift action and care can save lives—even the smallest ones like Ariel’s.
