Community Unites for “Camouflage Cancer” Fundraiser on Saturday

A fundraiser aimed at supporting families of pediatric cancer patients is set to take place on November 4, 2023, in Clarkston. The event, titled “Camouflage Cancer,” is organized by Bryson Stein, a 22-year-old cancer survivor who established a foundation to assist families facing the financial burden of medical treatments. Stein’s initiative is grounded in his personal experience with synovial cell sarcoma, which he was diagnosed with at the age of 13.

Stein understands the financial strain that families endure while caring for a child undergoing treatment. “Every dollar we raise goes to families dealing with pediatric cancer,” he explained. “The funds help with travel, time away from work for hospital visits, and other related expenses.” His efforts began two years ago when he founded the Bryson Stein Foundation, which has since garnered significant community support.

Co-founder Kacey Jackson-Way, who also serves as vice president of the board, emphasized the importance of community participation. “Our upcoming event is more than a night out,” she stated. “It’s a night that brings hope, resources, and strength to children battling cancer right here in our community.” Tickets for the event can be purchased online until November 1, 2023.

Stein’s journey to establishing the foundation was partly inspired by a significant moment during the 2022 Asotin County Fair, where his pig sold for a remarkable $100,000. This experience not only helped alleviate his own cancer-related expenses but also motivated him to assist others in similar situations. The idea for the foundation took shape during a bear hunt with Jackson-Way, where they discussed creating a legacy focused on helping those dealing with pediatric cancer.

Jackson-Way reflected on their conversation, saying, “I hadn’t successfully been able to get him a bear, but I knew for certain I could help him start a foundation.” She expressed pride in their achievements, stating, “Here we are today providing assistance to families and holding our second ‘Camouflage Cancer’ event. I am truly honored to help him leave a legacy that should help families for many years to come.”

The upcoming fundraiser will feature a casual dress code with camouflage attire encouraged but not required. Attendees can look forward to a presentation, dinner, and a silent auction. Tickets are priced at $75 per person, and advance purchase is necessary.
