RaJa Nelson Set to Break Bison Record with 74th Game Saturday

UPDATE: North Dakota State University senior wide receiver RaJa Nelson is on track to make history this Saturday, as he prepares to play in his record-breaking 74th career game against the University of St. Thomas at Gate City Bank Field in the Fargodome.

This milestone not only surpasses Braylon Henderson‘s previous record of 73 games, but it also highlights Nelson’s durability and commitment to the game. If the Bison advance deep into the FCS playoffs, he could finish his career with nearly 80 games.

“I’ve experienced a lot of college football, learned a lot through all the games,” Nelson stated. “But I couldn’t do it without the training staff, the coaches, and my teammates.”

At just 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, Nelson and Henderson are prime examples that size doesn’t define success in college football. Bison head coach Tim Polasek praised Nelson’s skills, noting, “He’s a strong individual… a lean, strong athlete with a competitive spirit.”

Since starting his career, Nelson has played in an impressive 15 games in a single fall season and was instrumental in the Bison’s national title run last year, despite battling injuries. His journey has been shaped significantly by the COVID-19 pandemic, which allowed for extended eligibility and has led to this unprecedented games record.

Nelson reflected on his time at NDSU, saying, “I feel like looking back, I wouldn’t change it. I love this place; it means a lot to me. It’s poured into me a lot and given me the opportunity to live out my dream.”

The NCAA does not officially recognize a record for career games played, which raises the significance of Nelson’s achievement. As he heads into this milestone game, the Bison community is rallying behind him, eager to witness history in the making.

As the game approaches, all eyes will be on Nelson, whose journey through college football has been nothing short of remarkable. Fans and teammates alike are hopeful for a deep playoff run, which could further solidify his legacy as one of the greatest Bison players in history.
