URGENT UPDATE: The beloved Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena has been cancelled for this year, but fans are refusing to let the tradition fade. On Sunday, Nov. 23, the community will come together for an alternative celebration, promising a vibrant day filled with music, mayhem, and merriment in Old Town Pasadena.
Starting at 11 a.m. and running until 3 p.m., festivities kick off at the Dog Haus Biergarten on Big Bang Theory Way with “Doo Dah’s Big Bang!” This alley-side cabaret will feature a blend of Doo Dah legends and new performers, ensuring an electric atmosphere. Attendees can expect live music, lively performances, and a showcase of quirky antics that define the spirit of the Doo Dah Parade.
A highlight of the event will be the crowning of the Doo Dah Queen, with tryouts open to anyone or anything from noon until 3 p.m.. This quirky tradition allows participants to embrace their creativity and humor, making it a unique experience for all.
As the sun sets, the celebration continues with a 21-and-over after-party at the Old Towne Pub, featuring Ashton Slater’s Grateful Get-Down. This late-night gathering promises to keep the energy alive for those eager to enjoy the festivities beyond the daytime events.
The Doo Dah Parade began in 1978 as a humorous counterpoint to the more traditional Tournament of Roses Parade. Over the years, it has become a staple of Pasadena culture, known for its outrageous and whimsical participants, including past entries like the “Revenge of the Baby Seals.” While attendance has fluctuated in recent years, organizers express hope for a grand return next year.
This year’s alternative celebration is more than just a replacement; it signifies the strength and resilience of the Pasadena community. Residents and fans are encouraged to gather for an unforgettable day, underscoring the spirit of togetherness that defines the Doo Dah legacy.
