Urgent Search Underway for Missing U.S. Passenger on Cruise

UPDATE: A U.S. passenger has gone missing during a Caribbean cruise, prompting an urgent search operation by local authorities. Ann Evans, a 55-year-old woman, was last seen after disembarking from the Rotterdam, a Holland America ship, at Port St. Maarten on November 20, 2023.

According to the Police Force of Sint Maarten, Evans exited the ship around 10:00 a.m. for an organized island tour. She reportedly left the tour bus in Marigot, French Saint Martin, but failed to return. “At this time, we are actively searching for Ms. Evans and encourage anyone with information to come forward,” the police stated in a missing person alert.

The Rotterdam set sail from Fort Lauderdale on November 16 and is currently undertaking a 12-day cruise through the Caribbean. Holland America has confirmed they immediately notified local authorities and are cooperating fully in the search for Evans.

This incident follows a troubling trend of cruise-related disappearances. Earlier this month, the body of Anna Kepner, an 18-year-old passenger, was discovered under a bed aboard a Carnival cruise ship. Authorities reported her death as a result of “mechanical asphyxia.” Investigations revealed that her 16-year-old stepbrother is a suspect, further complicating an already tragic situation.

In another alarming case in October, an 80-year-old woman named Suzanne Rees was found dead after being left behind during an excursion on Lizard Island near Australia. The cruise, valued at $50,000, was canceled following her death. Mark Fifield, CEO of Coral Expeditions, expressed condolences and confirmed the company is issuing full refunds to passengers.

As the search for Ann Evans continues, her family and friends are anxiously awaiting news. Holland America has expressed their concern and commitment to finding Evans, stating, “We are deeply concerned for our guest and are doing everything possible to assist local authorities.”

With the clock ticking, authorities are emphasizing the importance of any tips or sightings that could aid in the search. The community is rallying behind the effort, demonstrating the human impact of such incidents on families and loved ones.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the search for Ann Evans intensifies. This situation highlights the need for safety and awareness while traveling, especially during cruise excursions. If you have any information, please contact local authorities immediately.
