Gas prices in Florida have risen by an average of $0.20 per gallon as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches. As of Sunday, the average price reached $3.10 per gallon, according to data from AAA – The Auto Club Group. This increase marks a notable rise compared to previous weeks and months, with prices up $0.18 from last week and $0.15 from last month.
The current price is also $0.02 higher than this time last year, yet it remains consistent with the price recorded on Thanksgiving Day in 2024. Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA, noted that this increase aligns with a typical pattern seen during this time of year after a series of declines. He expressed a cautiously optimistic outlook, stating, “If that pattern holds, drivers could see prices ease as they hit the road for Thanksgiving.”
Regional Price Variations Across Florida
While Florida’s gas prices reflect a general upward trend, there are significant variations across different metro areas. The most expensive markets include West Palm Beach-Boca Raton at $3.26 per gallon, followed by Naples at $3.20 and Ocala at $3.17. Conversely, the least expensive areas are Crestview-Fort Walton Beach at $2.71, Pensacola at $2.73, and Panama City at $2.75.
The fluctuations in gas prices are particularly impactful for travelers planning to drive during the Thanksgiving holiday. With prices matching last year’s holiday, even a slight decrease could offer significant savings for those on the road. As families prepare for their journeys, the cost of fuel will likely be a crucial factor in their travel plans.
As Thanksgiving approaches, it is advisable for drivers to monitor fuel prices closely, considering potential price adjustments as the holiday nears. The historical trends observed by AAA may provide travelers with hope for more favorable prices as they embark on their holiday travels.
