Colquitt Regional Health System in Moultrie has marked National Rural Health Day by showcasing significant advancements in healthcare technology and education over the past year. The health system’s initiatives illustrate a commitment to enhancing patient-centered care in rural areas, ensuring that residents have access to innovative medical solutions.
Throughout the year, Colquitt Regional has integrated multiple state-of-the-art technologies aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment, and the overall patient experience. Among these advancements is the introduction of Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy, a non-invasive procedure that targets and eliminates precancerous skin cells while enhancing skin appearance. Cancer patients can also utilize the Paxman Scalp Cooling System, which is designed to mitigate hair loss during chemotherapy, providing crucial support during treatment.
Expanding Surgical Capabilities and Patient Services
The health system has significantly enhanced its surgical and diagnostic capabilities with the addition of the da Vinci 5, the most advanced surgical robot currently available. This expansion includes the introduction of PET Scan services, which improve the detection of cancer, neurological conditions, and cardiac diseases. Additionally, Colquitt Regional is employing Aquablation therapy and the HYDROS Robotic System for precise treatment of enlarged prostates.
In the realm of Women’s and Children’s Services, the introduction of the Vibwife Birth Platform aims to provide greater comfort and flexibility for mothers during labor, fostering a safer birthing experience.
“These advancements reflect our commitment to providing world-class care right here at home,” stated Jim Matney, President and CEO of Colquitt Regional. “Rural communities deserve access to the same technologies and treatment options found in major metropolitan areas. Every investment we make is focused on improving patient outcomes, elevating quality of care, and keeping families close to home.”
Investing in Medical Education and Future Expansion
Colquitt Regional is also dedicated to expanding access to healthcare through education. Through the Georgia South Graduate Medical Education, the system offers residency programs in family medicine and psychiatry, training a growing number of physicians to serve rural populations. In collaboration with Wellstar Health System, Colquitt Regional has launched an OB/GYN residency track that provides valuable experience in both suburban and rural hospital settings.
Looking toward the future, Colquitt Regional has commenced construction on a new patient tower, anticipated to be completed by 2029. This expansion will add 56 beds across four floors, including enhanced obstetric facilities, additional operating rooms, and increased critical care space. The new tower will also feature two floors dedicated to medical-surgical beds, ultimately improving capacity and patient care for a growing community.
“Our community can be proud of what is happening at Colquitt Regional,” commented John Griffin, Chairman of the Hospital Authority. “Rural hospitals across the country face tremendous financial and workforce challenges, yet we continue to grow, expand services, and invest in the future. These advancements are a reminder that rural healthcare is strong, innovative, and essential to the wellbeing of our community.”
The efforts of Colquitt Regional Health System demonstrate that rural healthcare can thrive through innovation, ensuring that community members receive the quality care they deserve.
