Tractor-Trailer Crash Causes Major Traffic Jam on I-205

UPDATE: A serious tractor-trailer crash has led to a full closure of Interstate 205 near Mountain House, causing significant traffic disruptions. The accident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. today, when the truck, transporting a hazardous mix of gasoline and ethanol, jackknifed just west of the Alameda County line.

Authorities from the California Highway Patrol confirmed that the truck was hauling two tankers, with one overturning and spilling about three gallons of the flammable liquid onto the roadway. Fortunately, the driver escaped injury, and firefighters quickly managed to contain the leak without exposure to the hazardous material.

Traffic is currently being redirected as westbound vehicles on I-205 are being sent onto Mountain House Road, while eastbound traffic is diverted to Interstate 580. CHP Officer Tyler Hahn emphasized the extreme flammability of the spilled liquid, stating that hazmat personnel have advised maintaining a safe distance of at least 1,000 feet while pumping the fluid from the overturned tanker.

As of 10 p.m., all lanes of both eastbound and westbound I-205 have reopened, but the incident caused significant delays throughout the afternoon and evening. Commuters in the area experienced lengthy backups, making this accident a major concern for local drivers.

Authorities are urging motorists to remain cautious as cleanup operations have concluded but residual traffic impacts may persist. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.
