Marin County Faces Severe Storm: 2+ Inches of Rain, Winds 80 MPH

UPDATE: Marin County is experiencing a severe storm today, with more than 2 inches of rain and wind gusts reaching up to 80 mph. The National Weather Service confirms that the region is bracing for continued showers through Monday, creating hazardous conditions for residents.

As of this morning, the bulk of the rainfall has already drenched the area, with totals reported at 2.74 inches on Mount Tamalpais and 2.26 inches in both Kentfield and San Rafael. The storm’s intensity has prompted warnings of potential flooding and power outages across Marin County and beyond.

Nicole Sarment, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, stated, “There’s no dry day until Tuesday.” Rainfall is expected to persist, with residents advised to remain vigilant and prepared for further impacts.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, areas north of Guerneville saw more than 4 inches of rain, while the Santa Cruz Mountains recorded nearly 5 inches at Ben Lomond. Major airports, including San Francisco and Oakland, received approximately 1.5 inches of rain, causing potential delays in travel.

In response to the storm, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) reported that 4,075 customers were without power early Thursday, but the number has since decreased to 1,214. Specifically, 662 of those outages are in the North Bay, with Horicon Elementary School forced to close due to storm-related power loss.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” a PG&E representative stated.

For those near the coast, strong waves are anticipated to impact North Bay beaches, raising concerns about riptides and sneaker waves. Expected breaking waves will reach between 13 and 18 feet through Friday evening, posing additional risks to beachgoers.

With the storm’s potential to disrupt daily life and safety, Marin County officials urge residents to stay updated on weather reports and exercise caution when traveling. The community is reminded to prepare for possible flooding and to stay indoors during peak storm conditions.

As the situation continues to develop, residents are encouraged to monitor local news sources for real-time updates and safety information. Share this urgent news with family and friends to keep everyone informed about the storm’s impact.
