BREAKING: Joan M. Hakun, a cherished member of the Allentown community, passed away on November 9, 2025, at the age of 84. She died at the Luther Crest Healthcare Center in South Whitehall Township, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.
Joan was the devoted wife of George Hakun III, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. Known for her caring spirit, Joan was not only a homemaker but also a dedicated Registered Nurse early in her career. Her contributions to her family and community were profound, and her passing is felt deeply by those who knew her.
Born in Reading, PA, Joan was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Helen (Grota) Miseravage. She graduated from Reading High School and received her nursing education at the Reading Hospital School of Nursing and Kutztown University. Her commitment to her faith was evident as a member and former Lector at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Allentown.
Joan’s family remembers her as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Mark G. Hakun (Maurann) of Gambrills, MD, and grandchildren Monica Burnett (Jeff) of Layton, UT, and Marcella Hakun of Gambrills, MD. She also leaves behind a great-granddaughter, Emma Burnett. Joan was preceded in death by her son, Andrew G. Hakun, and is survived by daughter-in-law Cathy Hakun of Woodbine, MD, along with grandsons Steven and Patrick Hakun.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, located at 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown, PA 18103. A calling hour will take place from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church prior to the service.
