Bend High Soccer Triumphs Over Wilsonville, Returns to 5A Final

Bend High’s girls soccer team achieved a significant victory on November 11, 2025, by defeating Wilsonville 3-1 in the Class 5A semifinals. This win not only secured their place in the state championship match but also ended Wilsonville’s reign, which included four consecutive state titles and a previous defeat of Bend in last year’s championship.

The match began at a lively pace, with the second-seeded Lava Bears striking early. Junior midfielder Harper Moffenbeier scored just two minutes into the game, heading in a corner kick delivered by junior forward Shea Manfredi. Less than two minutes later, senior midfielder Meredith King extended the lead to two goals, chipping in a shot off an assist from sophomore defender Tatyana Fobi.

Despite Wilsonville’s history of dominance, with four goals scored against Bend in the previous championship encounter, the Lava Bears managed to contain their opponents effectively. The Wildcats, seeking their sixth consecutive championship match appearance, found the net only once. Senior Camryn Schaan, who scored twice in last year’s final, brought Wilsonville within one goal in the sixth minute, making the score 2-1.

However, Bend quickly responded to regain control of the match. Manfredi showcased her skill by dribbling up the right side and scoring in the 18th minute, solidifying a 3-1 advantage. This score remained unchanged for the remainder of the game, allowing Bend High to celebrate their return to the championship match.

Bend’s head coach, Scott Sagar, expressed pride in his team’s performance, stating, “This has been an accumulation of all the hard work that we have put in. This is proof that when you stick to the game plan and believe, you can do this.”

The Lava Bears will now face the top-seeded North Eugene in the state title match, which follows their narrow 1-0 victory over No. 4 Summit in the other semifinal. The championship game is set for Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium.

As the excitement builds for the upcoming championship match, Bend High has proven that determination and teamwork can lead to remarkable achievements on the soccer field.
