URGENT UPDATE: Major service changes are underway this weekend for Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) commuters. Starting early October 7, 2023, and continuing until 2:15 a.m. on October 9, 2023, travelers should prepare for significant disruptions, particularly on the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches.
On the **Port Jefferson Branch**, service is completely suspended between **Mineola** and **Huntington**. Shuttle buses will operate hourly, making stops at **Hicksville**, **Syosset**, and **Cold Spring Harbor** to assist passengers. Additionally, there will be no LIRR service at **Carle Place** and **Westbury**, with the MTA recommending the use of NICE bus routes **n22**, **n24**, or **n35**, which will accept LIRR tickets at no extra charge.
Meanwhile, the **Ronkonkoma line** will see trains running only every two hours between **Penn Station** and **Ronkonkoma**, rerouted via the south shore. Trains will change direction twice without stopping at stations between **Jamaica** and **Farmingdale**. Commuters are advised to allow at least **50 minutes** of extra travel time to reach their destinations.
Passengers should note that there will be no service at **Bethpage**, necessitating travel to either **Farmingdale** or **Seaford** LIRR stations for service.
These changes are due to essential signal upgrade work being conducted in **Hicksville**, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The MTA has advised commuters to stay updated on service changes by visiting their official website.
Prepare for delays and plan your travel accordingly! This disruption is impacting numerous commuters, so sharing this information could help others navigate the weekend more smoothly. Stay safe and informed!
