Born on October 20, 1935, in Newark, New Jersey, Wachs grew up during World War II, with her mother serving as an air raid warden. She graduated from Weequahic High School in 1953 before moving to Florida to pursue higher education at the University of Miami and the University of Florida, Gainesville, where she earned a Degree in Education.
Judy’s career began as a Kindergarten teacher, but her journey of passion and purpose spanned multiple states, including Washington D.C., Trenton, NJ, and Yardley, PA. In 1970, she relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she furthered her education by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University.
After raising her four children, Wachs transitioned to a successful career in recruitment in Manhattan, where she embraced the vibrant East Coast lifestyle. Her adventures led her to the Hamptons and back to California, where she spent significant time near her children, Brinda and Kelly.
Wachs was not only a dedicated mother but also a celebrated artist, with her work featured in the New York Times‘ Modern Love column. A passionate fan of the Golden State Warriors and an enthusiastic advocate for social causes, she also dedicated time to humanitarian efforts, including building homes for Tibetan refugees in Nepal.
Throughout her life, Judy maintained a close-knit circle of friends and was known for her adventurous spirit and love of learning. She spent three months in Florence studying Italian, embodying her personal motto tattooed on her back: “Vivere senza rimpianti” (Live without regret).
Wachs is survived by her children: Brinda, Kelly, Greg, and Joe Wachs, alongside her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Her enduring friendships and deep connections with loved ones reflect the values she cherished most—living and loving fully.
