Ian McKellen and Tramell Tillman Join Johnny Depp’s ‘Ebenezer’

Ian McKellen and Tramell Tillman are set to join Johnny Depp in the upcoming film, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, a fresh adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens novel. Directed by Ti West, this version promises to bring a unique take on the enduring tale of redemption and transformation. Paramount Pictures has scheduled the film’s release for November 13, 2026, generating considerable excitement in the entertainment industry.

The screenplay for this adaptation is penned by Nathaniel Halpern, while Andrea Riseborough has also joined the cast. The story follows the journey of an elderly miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, who is confronted by the ghost of his former business partner and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. This retelling adds to a long tradition of adaptations of Dickens’ beloved work.

This announcement comes alongside another adaptation of A Christmas Carol from Warner Bros., which is being developed by Robert Eggers and features Willem Dafoe as Scrooge. Eggers’ version is described as a thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, focusing on one man’s supernatural journey to confront his past and fight for redemption.

While details about McKellen’s role remain undisclosed, industry sources suggest that Tillman may portray the Ghost of Christmas Present. Tillman has recently gained recognition for his performance in the acclaimed Apple series Severance, which earned him an Emmy award for Best Supporting Actor at the recent awards ceremony. He is also in production for Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, alongside Tom Holland, and has completed work on the films Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother and Good Sex directed by Lena Dunham.

On the other hand, Ian McKellen, an Oscar-nominated actor known for his roles in major franchises such as X-Men and The Lord of the Rings, continues to be a prominent figure in the film industry. He is represented by Independent Talent Group and CAA. Meanwhile, Tillman is represented by UTA, Principal Entertainment LA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer.

As anticipation builds for Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, the combination of such talent promises a captivating interpretation of a timeless story, inviting audiences to reflect on themes of compassion, generosity, and the festive spirit.
