Born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise (Hollins) Sack. She leaves behind a legacy that includes her cherished husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, who predeceased her, and a loving family that includes her son, Gordon Hobday, and daughters, Wendy Haugh and JoAnn Massad.
Marjorie was not only a devoted mother but also a vibrant member of the cultural fabric of her community. She and Richard were actively involved in local musical groups like the Schenectady Choral Society and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society, where their shared love for music flourished. They lent their voices to church choirs, making Calvary Episcopal Church their musical home.
A child of the Great Depression, Marjorie exemplified resilience and creativity. She was known for her crafting and gardening skills, which brought beauty to her surroundings. The Hobday family created lasting memories at their camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir, where Marjorie and Richard first met during a square dance, igniting a love story that spanned decades.
Marjorie’s artistic talents extended beyond music; she and Richard hosted an annual Holiday Art Show Open House for over 40 years, where their works were celebrated and shared with the community. Her grace and creativity will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
A Mass honoring Marjorie’s life will take place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Following the service, a reception will be held in the church hall, inviting the community to come together in remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Calvary Episcopal Church or the Estherville Animal Shelter. Arrangements are being handled by the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, where condolences can be shared and memories remembered online.
