Popular Food Truck The Rambler Closes, Celebrates Last Season

BREAKING: The beloved food truck The Rambler has officially parked permanently as of October 30, 2023, marking the end of its final season in the Twin Ports. This popular mobile eatery, which helped pioneer the Northland food truck scene over 12 years ago, hosted a farewell event at The Tasting Room to celebrate its legacy.

Owner Jonathan Reznick expressed deep emotional ties to The Rambler, describing it as “his baby.” The food truck, known for signature dishes like mahi mahi tacos and bacon-wrapped slaw dogs, has been a staple at events across Duluth, including major corporations and festivals.

With The Rambler’s closure, Midcoast Catering is shifting its focus to special events, accounting for approximately 70% of their business, while The Rambler contributed about 15%. “We want to concentrate on providing more corporate catering services,” said Kelsey Auran, kitchen manager. “All of our staff is cross-trained, so there will be no shortage of hours.”

The decision to retire The Rambler stems from two key factors: the desire to enhance offerings at Midcoast Catering and the increasing saturation of food trucks in the area. Auran noted, “It’s wonderful to see the food truck scene evolving in Duluth; we feel it’s in good hands.”

As memories flood back, Auran recalls her first major event with The Rambler during a Trampled By Turtles concert in 2018, a chaotic and thrilling experience that solidified her love for the food truck atmosphere. However, she also acknowledged the challenges, including mechanical issues that often arose.

The future of The Rambler itself remains uncertain. Reznick and his team are deliberating whether to sell the food truck or keep it for future endeavors. As the community bids farewell to this iconic food truck, the focus now turns to what Midcoast Catering will bring to the table in the upcoming season.

For those who enjoyed The Rambler, this marks the end of an era, but a new chapter is on the horizon as Midcoast Catering prepares to innovate and engage with the community in fresh ways. Stay tuned for updates on Midcoast’s upcoming events and offerings as they continue to evolve in Duluth’s vibrant culinary landscape.
