Community Mourns Loss of Betty Jean “Jeanne” Ruth, 73, Today

UPDATE: The community of Cloquet, MN, is mourning the passing of beloved resident Betty Jean “Jeanne” Ruth, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 29, 2025. Jeanne was 73 years old, leaving behind a legacy of love and friendship that touched many lives.

Born on March 23, 1952, in Alexandria, Minnesota, Jeanne was the youngest of four children in a vibrant family. Throughout her childhood, she moved frequently but spent most of her formative years in ORR and Proctor, MN, graduating from Proctor High School in 1970. Jeanne maintained close connections with friends from both schools and cherished their reunions over the years.

Jeanne’s life was beautifully intertwined with her husband Norman “Norm” Ruth, whom she married on May 4, 1974. The couple shared a deep bond for 36 years until Norm’s sudden passing in 2010. Together, they raised one son, Ryan, and Jeanne’s pride and joy were her grandsons, Alex and Eli. The trio enjoyed attending UMD hockey games as season ticket holders, creating lasting memories filled with joy.

Professionally, Jeanne had an extensive career spanning various roles, starting at Travelers Insurance. She held significant positions at the Duluth Builders Exchange, Standard Brick, and served as the Executive Director of the Arrowhead Builders Association. Jeanne returned to the insurance sector, where she spent her final years with State Farm Insurance, retiring in 2016.

Known for her kindness and genuine interest in others, Jeanne was a friend to many. Her warm smile and caring demeanor made her a beloved figure in the community. Friends remember her not only for her elegance and love for the arts, including the symphony and theater, but also for the thoughtful moments she created in their lives.

Jeanne is survived by her son Ryan and daughter-in-law Andrea, her grandsons Alex and Eli, her siblings, and many close friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband Norm, her parents, and several family members.

Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation will commence at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM. A gathering featuring appetizers and treats will follow, where attendees can share stories and honor Jeanne’s memory.
