Myles Turner, currently with the Milwaukee Bucks, has sparked controversy following remarks about his former teammate Tyrese Haliburton. During a recent podcast appearance on “The Thanalysis Show,” hosted by Bucks’ teammate Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Turner suggested that Haliburton’s tough persona is not genuine. This public criticism has led to a wave of backlash from fans, particularly as Turner has struggled in his early games with the Bucks.
Through his first four games with the Bucks, Turner has averaged only 4.0 points while shooting at a disappointing 31.6 percent from the field. His effective field goal percentage stands at 38.2 percent. The former Texas Longhorns standout is heavily relying on three-point attempts, posting a 57.9 percent rate in this category but converting just 22.7 percent of those shots.
Turner’s comments about Haliburton came as he addressed his former teammate’s approach to the game. “Tyrese, also, he knows he’s protected too,” Turner remarked. “So he can go out there, talking [expletive] saying whatever he wants and he knows he has backup at the end of the day.” He continued, implying that Haliburton would not exhibit the same bravado in a less secure environment.
The response from fans has been swift and critical. Many have taken issue with Turner’s assertions, especially given his own performance this season. One user commented, “6’11 center and averaged 5 rebounds in the playoffs,” while another pointed out, “Tyrese singlehandedly took Turner from 13 points per game to 18 points per game and to an NBA Finals Game 7. Don’t bite the hand that fed you.”
Fans have also scrutinized Turner’s physicality on the court. A social media user noted, “How is it that Myles can be that big and that athletic but he can’t get a damn rebound? That’s 100 percent a lack of toughness and effort.” Another commenter highlighted Haliburton’s commitment during high-stakes moments, stating, “Risking your health and next season for a chance to win it all in Game 7? Nothing about that is fake tough.”
As Turner continues to adapt to his role with the Bucks, he faces growing scrutiny not only for his on-court performance but also for his off-court remarks. The Bucks will be looking for a turnaround in Turner’s performance as they aim for a successful season ahead.
In the meantime, this incident serves as a reminder of the intense scrutiny athletes face, both in their professional roles and in their interactions with former teammates.
