Catholic Student Group Expands Operations Near UWM Campus

A group dedicated to serving Catholic students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is relocating to a more accessible site near the campus. The Catholic Student Center, currently situated several blocks away from UWM, plans to move closer in time for the start of the 2024 academic year. This initiative aims to enhance support for the university’s growing Catholic student population.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has confirmed that the new location will provide students with greater access to religious services, community events, and spiritual guidance. The center’s relocation is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the presence of Catholic services on a university campus where nearly 10,000 students identify as Catholic.

According to Father Michael W. McLain, the director of the Catholic Student Center, the move reflects a commitment to meeting the spiritual needs of students in an increasingly diverse educational environment. “We believe that being closer to campus will allow us to build a stronger community and better serve our students,” he stated.

The new site, located on East Kenwood Boulevard, is expected to feature updated facilities, including meeting rooms and spaces for social gatherings. This upgrade is seen as essential in fostering a welcoming atmosphere for students looking to connect over shared faith and values.

As the Catholic Student Center prepares for the transition, there is excitement among students about the potential for expanded programs and activities. The center has a history of providing support through various ministries and outreach efforts, and the new location is anticipated to enhance these offerings.

In addition to spiritual services, the center aims to facilitate greater involvement in campus life, encouraging students to participate in community service, social justice initiatives, and interfaith dialogue. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee is optimistic that this move will not only benefit Catholic students but also contribute to the overall diversity of campus life at UWM.

Overall, the relocation of the Catholic Student Center marks a significant step towards enriching the spiritual landscape at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, reflecting the institution’s commitment to inclusivity and support for all students. The community looks forward to welcoming the center in its new home, ready to embrace the opportunities it will create for the student body.
