New York Braces for Urgent 3-Day Snowstorm, Up to 100 Inches Expected
URGENT UPDATE: New York is bracing for a major three-day snowstorm beginning on November 4, with forecasts indicating up to 100 inches of snow in some areas. The early-season chill is hitting the Empire State ahead of winter’s official start on December 21, and residents are preparing for significant snowfall.
Weather models reveal that snowfall will first impact central New York on November 4, with the heaviest accumulation expected west of Albany. November 5 will bring widespread snowfall across the state, while lighter snow is projected for southern regions. Snow is anticipated to linger until November 6, when rain is also expected to sweep in, clearing up by November 7.
This winter is projected to deliver much more snow than last year, with New York City likely to see between 17 and 21 inches of snow, compared to just 12.9 inches last winter. However, this total still falls short of the historical average of 29.8 inches.
In stark contrast, western New York, particularly Buffalo, is preparing for extreme conditions with forecasts predicting between 90 and 100 inches of snow. The Old Farmer’s Almanac has classified the Northeast as a “very cold and snow-filled” zone this fall, emphasizing that chilly air and scattered showers could impact Halloween festivities.
The implications of this impending storm are significant. Residents are advised to secure their homes and vehicles and prepare for potentially hazardous travel conditions. Authorities encourage everyone to stay updated on weather alerts and follow local guidance.
As winter approaches, this early snowstorm serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of seasonal weather. With the potential for heavy snowfall and cold snaps, New Yorkers must remain vigilant. Keep an eye on weather forecasts as conditions evolve rapidly, and stay safe!
