David “Dave” Platt, Beloved Safety Advocate, Passes at 70
BREAKING NEWS: David “Dave” Platt, a respected safety professional and beloved member of the community, has passed away at the age of 70 after a brief illness. He died peacefully on September 30, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.
Born on June 14, 1955, in Whittier, California, Dave was known for his vibrant personality and commitment to safety. He grew up participating in local activities such as Scouting and Little League Baseball, which shaped his love for community service. After graduating from Calhi School in 1973, he pursued higher education, earning a degree in Anthropology from Sonoma State University in 1978.
Dave’s career as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) began shortly after he married Ailene Platt and eventually moved to the Santa Cruz area. He gained recognition as “The Safety Guy,” dedicating his life to teaching employers best practices to ensure workplace safety. His work significantly impacted countless lives, making him a respected figure in the state of California.
In 2019, Dave relocated to Sequim, Washington, to enjoy his later years. Throughout his life, he cherished hobbies such as photography, cooking, fishing, and gardening. His passion for music led him to attend numerous concerts, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Dave was not only a dedicated professional but also a family man. He is survived by his wife, Merribeth Platt (married 2006), his daughter, Carolanne Baker, a sister, and many extended family members including step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marian Platt.
A founding member of the Whittier Boys Club, Dave left a lasting impact on his community. Friends and family are encouraged to honor his memory by making donations to the American Cancer Society.
As the community mourns, tributes are pouring in, highlighting Dave’s contributions and the warmth he brought to everyone he met. His legacy as a safety advocate and devoted family man will be cherished forever.
