Jason Lewis Shines with Three Touchdowns in North Torrance’s Victory
URGENT UPDATE: In a commanding performance, Jason Lewis scored three touchdowns, leading North Torrance to a decisive 48-14 victory over South Torrance in a critical Pioneer League matchup on Friday night. With this win, North improves to 6-3, enhancing their playoff hopes.
Earlier this week, coach Todd Croce emphasized the need for his running backs to step up in the absence of injured starter Jaydan Andrade. Lewis and Steven Sarabia answered that call, combining for a potent offensive display. Lewis rushed for 60 yards and delivered three crucial touchdowns, while Sarabia contributed significantly to the team’s success.
Lewis reflected on the game, stating, “We had a rough first half, but then we came out in the second half after a good speech by my boy, Luca (Galdamez). That motivated us and kept us going.” His words resonated as the team surged in the second half, with the offense scoring on all possessions.
The Saxons set the tone early in the third quarter, with Sarabia leading the charge. He powered through the Spartan defense, scoring from the 1-yard line to extend the lead to 27-14. Lewis then added his first touchdown of the second half, further solidifying North’s dominance. With just under nine minutes left in the game, Lewis broke free for a 17-yard rush, capping the scoring at 48-14.
Coach Croce praised the second-half performance, noting, “It was nice to see the second half offense come out and score on all possessions.” Additionally, quarterback Ethan Edwards showcased his versatility, throwing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Kchole Mataele-Juarez and intercepting two passes on defense.
Despite the loss, South Torrance’s quarterback Chase Spahr, who leads the Pioneer League in passing, managed to score an 8-yard rushing touchdown and connected with Jacob Kerekes for a 21-yard touchdown pass. Spahr acknowledged the challenges his team faced, particularly against North’s aggressive defense.
Coach Matt Mishler highlighted the struggles of managing fatigue with a roster of just 33 players, which became evident in the second half. “We didn’t really have much life in the second half,” he admitted, noting that fatigue likely affected their performance.
This victory not only boosts North Torrance’s playoff ambitions but also underscores the resilience of the team in overcoming adversity. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on how both teams adapt and prepare for the challenges ahead.
Fans and local supporters are encouraged to share this exciting update as North Torrance continues its push for a strong finish in the Pioneer League. Keep following for further developments as the high school football season heats up!
