Skoda Revives Classic 1000 MBX in Bold Electric Concept
UPDATE: Skoda has just unveiled an exciting concept that takes a nostalgic trip back to its roots with the revival of the legendary 1000 MBX. This innovative design showcases the brand’s latest “Modern Solid” styling and pays homage to one of the rarest vehicles ever produced by the Czech automaker, originally debuting in 1966.
The original 1000 MBX saw a mere 1,403 units manufactured before its discontinuation in 1969, while an even rarer variant, the more powerful 1100 MBX, had only 1,114 models made. Skoda’s design team, led by Antti Savio and David Stingl, completed this striking digital concept in just four weeks, as part of their ongoing “Icons Get a Makeover” series.
This concept vehicle stays true to its ancestry with a boxy coupe silhouette, reminiscent of the original, but it introduces modern features like small, rear-hinged doors akin to the Mazda RX-8. The Skoda 1000 MBX is designed with four sliding doors for easy access to cinema-style bench seating, offering a blend of nostalgia and innovation.
Notably, this concept is purely electric, indicating a shift towards sustainability, but it is important to emphasize that it is not intended for production. The design team has created this as a “what if” exercise, showcasing high-end features that include a height-adjustable air suspension—unavailable in any current Skoda model.
The compact coupe, comparable in size to the last Audi TT, creatively draws parallels with another retro-futuristic design, the Nissan IDx. The digital prototype also features a unique glass-covered oval dashboard, adding to its modern flair.
While the Vision O, a large electric wagon, is set to enter production soon, the 1000 MBX remains a fascinating glimpse into Skoda’s design possibilities—an inspiring yet unattainable dream for automobile enthusiasts.
These stunning visualizations are expected to capture the imagination of car lovers worldwide, but they also serve as a reminder of the creative potential that exists within automotive design today. With its nostalgic roots and forward-thinking approach, the Skoda 1000 MBX concept is a celebration of both history and innovation, making it a must-share story for enthusiasts and casual readers alike.
