Taylor Guitars Expands SOMOS Collection with 6 New Models NOW
URGENT UPDATE: Taylor Guitars has just announced the launch of six new models in its popular SOMOS Collection®. These double-course guitars are specifically designed for Latin music styles, expanding sonic possibilities for players worldwide.
Available starting today at authorized Taylor dealers and on TaylorGuitars.com, the new offerings include three Bajo Quinto (10-string) and three Doce Doble (12-string) guitars across the 100 Series, 200 Plus Series, and 200 Deluxe Series. This expansion aims to make high-quality instruments more accessible to a broader audience.
“With the SOMOS Collection, we’re celebrating our musical and cultural connections that define our home in Southern California and Baja California,” stated Andy Powers, Chief Guitar Designer and CEO at Taylor Guitars. This launch responds to the growing demand for innovative, quality instruments in Latin American music, promising new textures and tonal possibilities for guitarists.
New Models Designed for Latinos and Beyond
The SOMOS Collection was first introduced to reflect Taylor’s commitment to Latin-inspired acoustic instruments. “Somos,” meaning “we are” in Spanish, encapsulates unity and shared expression within the diverse musical community.
Each new model features a cutaway Dreadnought body, onboard electronics, and a slim, easy-playing neck, enhanced by Taylor’s patented C-Class bracing. These guitars are engineered to improve volume, sustain, and intonation, while D’Addario custom strings ensure optimal tuning.
Model Highlights and Pricing
The 100 Series models, priced at starting $899 USD, offer a clean aesthetic with a natural matte finish and are designed for beginners and budget-conscious musicians. These guitars include either an EMG ACS soundhole humbucker pickup or Taylor’s ES2 electronics.
Next, the 200 Plus Series, starting at $1,599 USD, features a bold blacktop finish and layered maple back and sides for enhanced projection and brightness. These models also come with either EMG ACS or ES2 electronics.
Finally, the premium 200 Deluxe Series, starting at $2,099 USD, showcases stunning Hawaiian koa back and sides, delivering not only a shimmering tone but also striking visuals, perfect for the stage.
Embracing Tradition with Modern Innovation
The reimagined Doce Doble introduces a unique approach to the traditional 12-string format, creating lush, chorus-like textures, while the Bajo Quinto serves as a rhythmic foundation in Norteño and Tejano music. These innovations are already being embraced by top artists including Joaquin Ruiz of Grupo Firme, who shared, “For me, the Taylor bajo quinto and doce doble have really helped me find new ways to express myself.”
Crafted in Taylor’s state-of-the-art facility in Tecate, Baja California, the SOMOS models represent a commitment to quality and sustainability, with Powers noting that the collection reflects the company’s identity as makers and musicians.
What’s Next?
As the music industry evolves, Taylor Guitars is poised to continue meeting the needs of contemporary musicians. The six new SOMOS Collection models are set to reshape the sound of Latin music, and with their availability, aspiring and professional guitarists can now explore these innovative instruments.
