Freya the Dog Waits for a Home After Overcoming Pneumonia
After surviving a battle with pneumonia, a gentle dog named Freya has spent the last 99 days at the Lorain County Dog Kennel in Elyria, Ohio, waiting for someone to offer her a loving home. This six-year-old pup is described by kennel volunteers as a sweetheart with a soft, velvet-like coat and a heart brimming with affection. Despite her challenges, Freya remains hopeful for a fresh start.
Overcoming Adversity
Freya’s journey began on July 16, 2023, when she arrived at the kennel uncertain and struggling to breathe. Initially diagnosed with kennel cough, her condition quickly deteriorated into pneumonia. Thanks to the dedicated care from the staff and volunteers, Freya made a remarkable recovery and is now healthy and ready to find her forever home.
Freya’s personality shines through in her simple pleasures. She enjoys lounging in the sun, snuggling with her human friends, and showing affection through gentle kisses for those who earn her trust. Volunteers have noted her charming habits, including an expressive side-eye and adorable pig-like noises when she is excited. One volunteer expressed their admiration on social media, stating, “I adore this lady. She’s calm, quiet, and gentle. She will patiently wait to go out and enjoys a leisurely walk.”
The Perfect Match
Freya is looking for a calm home, ideally without cats or small animals. She may be compatible with a mellow dog who is comfortable allowing her to take the lead. Most importantly, she needs a person who is confident, patient, and willing to invest time in helping her feel safe. Once trust is established, volunteers emphasize that Freya will wholeheartedly choose her human companion every day.
Those interested in meeting Freya or learning about the adoption process at the Lorain County Dog Kennel are encouraged to call 440-326-5995 or visit the facility located at 301 Hadaway Court in Elyria. The kennel operates on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. The kennel remains closed on Sundays, Mondays, and legal holidays.
The adoption fee for Freya is $106, which includes vaccinations and a county dog license. All adopted dogs must be spayed or neutered, with free surgical services available at Lorain Animal Clinic for those requiring the procedure. Adopters only need to cover $62 for post-operative care and pain medication, making it accessible for those wishing to provide a loving home for Freya or other dogs in need.
For a chance to see other dogs available for adoption, prospective pet owners can visit the Dogs to Adopt page on the kennel’s website. Freya’s story serves as a reminder of the resilience of shelter animals and the love they have to offer.
