Belva Pearl Gibson, Advocate for Women, Passes at 98

Belva Pearl Gibson, a revered figure in the Vallejo community and an advocate for women’s empowerment, passed away at the age of 98 on March 15, 2025. Her life was marked by independence, generosity, and a deep commitment to fostering connections among women.

For over six decades, Belva owned and operated Belva’s Hair Design, a beloved establishment where women could gather, share stories, and forge lasting friendships. The salon became a hub for community engagement and personal connection, reflecting her vibrant spirit and dedication to her clients.

Belva was a passionate supporter of the Vallejo chapter of Soroptimist International, dedicating countless hours to raising funds for scholarships aimed at empowering women and girls. Her advocacy helped provide opportunities for those in need, demonstrating her commitment to social causes.

In addition to her community work, Belva was an enthusiastic sports fan. She enjoyed football, basketball, and golf, but her heart belonged to the San Francisco Giants. She regularly took the ferry from Vallejo to San Francisco to watch games at the stadium, a testament to her love for the sport and her adventurous spirit.

Belva is survived by numerous family members, caregivers, and friends who will cherish the lively conversations and nearly a century of stories she shared. Her family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Vallejo Soroptimist organization, honoring her legacy of support and empowerment.

A gathering to celebrate Belva’s remarkable life will take place on October 22, 2025, from 17:00 to 20:00 at Mary’s Pizza, located at 423 N McDowell Blvd, Petaluma. This event will provide an opportunity for friends and family to come together, share memories, and honor the impact she made throughout her life.
