Historian Keith Lockhart Seeks Help to Identify Historic Postcard
Historian Keith Lockhart is reaching out to the public for assistance in pinpointing a historic postcard dating back to around 1920. The postcard features a scene from Cherry Street in Collingdale, Pennsylvania, and Lockhart hopes to gather more precise information regarding its location, including specific blocks and cross streets.
Lockhart’s collection of photographs, postcards, and illustrations from Delaware County is extensive, and he aims to preserve the area’s history as accurately as possible. The current postcard shows a view of Cherry Street devoid of any vehicles, which adds to its historical significance. He is eager to learn more about the orientation of the photo and any details that locals may have.
Individuals with insights about the postcard are encouraged to contact Lockhart directly via email at [email protected]. Further information about his work can be found on his website, delawarecountyhistory.com.
In a recent inquiry regarding a different image from Marcus Hook, two community members provided their observations. David Burns identified the photograph as depicting the intersection of 10th Street and Market Street, noting that the view looks east towards Post Road and Chester. He highlighted the presence of a drug store located on the southeast corner and mentioned the Southern Pennsylvania Traction Company trolley line curving through the intersection.
Another local, Dennis McKnight, along with fellow contributor Jack McKnight, also confirmed the location as the intersection of 10th and Market Streets, providing additional details about the view from Market Street towards McClure Lane.
Lockhart’s initiative not only invites community engagement but also serves as a reminder of the importance of historical preservation. By collaborating with local residents, he aims to enrich the collective memory of the region and ensure that its history is well-documented for future generations.
