Colorado Springs Welcomes Injured K9 Roam Home with Grand Procession
UPDATE: The community of Colorado Springs is rallying to honor K9 Roam, a beloved police dog severely injured in the line of duty, with a heartfelt homecoming procession scheduled for Saturday, October 21, 2023. This event marks a significant moment for Roam, who will be released from medical care after undergoing a leg amputation and an intensive recovery at Animal ER Care.
K9 Roam suffered grave injuries on October 15, while bravely attempting to apprehend a suspect, as confirmed by the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). Following a successful surgery and dedicated care from veterinary professionals, Roam is set to return to his unit with his handler, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by both human and canine officers.
The procession will kick off at 11:00 AM on Saturday, with Roam and his handler expected to traverse the route on Fountain Boulevard around 11:15 AM. Community members are urged to gather along the sidewalks to show their support and appreciation for Roam’s service and resilience. CSPD encourages attendees to avoid parking directly on Fountain Boulevard or Academy Boulevard, instead opting for nearby parking to ensure a smooth and safe event.
CSPD has expressed profound gratitude to the veterinary team at Animal ER Care, whose expertise and compassion were pivotal in saving Roam’s life. The department is also providing an opportunity for direct engagement, with Public Communication Specialist Caitlin Ford available for interviews at the CSPD Sand Creek Substation, 20 minutes after the procession concludes.
This event serves as a powerful testament to the bond between service animals and the communities they protect. As K9 Roam makes his journey home, the collective spirit of Colorado Springs will shine through, honoring not only Roam’s bravery but also the dedication of all law enforcement officers.
Join the community in celebrating K9 Roam’s incredible recovery and show your support this Saturday. Share this urgent news and help spread the word about the procession that honors the sacrifices of our four-legged heroes!
