Selena Gomez Advocates for Kindness After Hailey Bieber’s Remarks
Selena Gomez has responded to comments made by Hailey Bieber regarding their respective beauty brands, Rare Beauty and Rhode Skincare. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Gomez urged her followers to show kindness, stating, “Just leave the girl alone. She can say whatever she wants.” The 33-year-old singer emphasized that Bieber’s remarks do not impact her life and expressed concern over the negativity surrounding the situation, adding, “It’s just about relevance not intelligence. Be kind.”
According to reports from both Just Jared and TMZ, Gomez’s social media post was quickly deleted, followed by her sharing glimpses of her upcoming music video and a cozy moment with her husband, Benny Blanco. While Gomez has not elaborated on her comments since then, Bieber, 28, discussed the pressures of comparison in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal. She remarked, “It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” highlighting the challenges of public perception.
The dynamic between Gomez and Bieber has often drawn public scrutiny, largely due to their connections with Justin Bieber. Gomez was in an on-and-off relationship with the pop star, now 31, from 2009 to 2018. Shortly after their breakup, Justin began dating Hailey. In a past interview with GQ, he remarked on the importance of not rushing into relationships, reflecting on the potential emotional damage that could arise from his decisions.
Since their marriage in September 2018, Justin and Hailey have faced backlash from fans who believe there was overlap between his relationships with both women. Despite the ongoing speculation, all three individuals have denied these claims. Hailey addressed the situation in a 2022 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, stating, “It’s hard for me to talk about this because I don’t want to talk on either one of their behalf because it was their relationship.” She acknowledged the complexity of their situations while affirming the mutual respect she has for both herself and Gomez.
In March 2023, Gomez took to Instagram again, sharing that Hailey had reached out to her regarding the death threats and negativity she had been receiving. “This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying,” Gomez stated. She reiterated her commitment to kindness and called for an end to the hostility.
Bieber also expressed her concerns about the toxic environment created by social media. “The last few weeks have been very hard for everyone involved,” she said. “While social media is an incredible way to connect and build community, moments like this only create extreme division instead of bringing people together.”
Both Gomez and Bieber’s comments reflect a desire for a more supportive atmosphere, particularly in an industry often characterized by rivalry and competition. As the story continues to unfold, their calls for kindness resonate with many who have witnessed the negative impacts of public scrutiny on personal relationships.
