Marshall ISD Celebrates Completion of Extensive High School Renovations
Marshall, TX — After three years of intensive upgrades and construction, Marshall Independent School District (ISD) has officially completed a massive overhaul of its high school campus, district officials announced Sunday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house event.
Superintendent Dr. Richele Langley hailed the effort as “a lot of blood, sweat and tears” by staff, emphasizing the challenge of maintaining normal school operations while executing a comprehensive renovation spanning 275,000 square feet. The projects were fully funded by a bond measure passed in May 2023.
Marshall ISD Board President Brad Burris credited the community’s support, noting, “It’s a great day” marked by the completion of key facilities including a new auxiliary gym and a state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education (CTE) building housing automotive, welding, and agricultural mechanics programs. The bond projects revitalized the largely unchanged school, originally built in 1980, with updated classrooms, labs, and new specialized spaces.
Event attendees toured newly renovated areas highlighted during the ceremony, including a mock courtroom, a mock elementary classroom, and a remodeled culinary arts room. These upgrades not only modernize the campus but expand educational pathways and career readiness programs for students.
Honoring Legacy Educators as Part of Renovation
During the ceremony, Dr. Langley paid tribute to two former educators by dedicating trophy cases in their names. The newly created academic and UIL trophy cases honor Robert ‘Bob’ Lane, a former coach and high school principal of 18 years. The athletic trophy case near the gym was dedicated to Jack Gray, a longtime coach and administrator who graduated from Marshall High in 1951.
Langley reflected on the significance of these dedications, emphasizing that the renovations allowed the school to properly showcase the achievements of both academics and athletics, a balance not previously possible.
Transforming Educational Futures
Burris reiterated the district’s commitment to providing students with top-tier facilities that support diverse learning opportunities. “Our kids deserve it… offering these pathways in CTE is another way we show that we want to support them and give every opportunity to succeed in life,” he said.
Many community members who had taught or attended the school prior expressed amazement at the transformation, praising the modern, up-to-date facilities that now match the district’s educational goals and the demands of 21st-century learning.
Looking Ahead
With bond projects now complete, Marshall ISD turns its focus toward maximizing the impact of these facilities on student achievement and community engagement. The district will continue to seek ways to support innovative programs and maintain these upgraded campuses for years to come.
“For our community, the message is just a big thank you,” Langley said, closing with a spirited “Go Mavs!” to rally support for the school and its students.
The completion of these renovations signals a major milestone for Marshall ISD and offers a model for other districts aiming to enhance educational infrastructure while balancing ongoing school operations.
