Born on August 26, 1948, in Vandalia, Tom’s early life was marked by his athletic achievements at Vandalia High School, where he excelled in wrestling, tennis, and football, graduating in 1966. Just days after earning his Bachelor of Science in Education from Greenville University, he married his beloved wife, Patricia “Pat” Louise Young, on May 30, 1970, marking the beginning of a 55-year partnership filled with love and family.

Together, they welcomed two children: son, David Thomas, in 1973, and daughter, Elizabeth Rose, in 1975. His impact as an educator was profound, shaping the lives of countless students.

In retirement, Tom embraced the spirit of Christmas, serving as one of Santa’s helpers for 16 years alongside Pat, spreading joy and raising funds for charitable causes. His most treasured role began in 2009 when he became “Baba” to his grandson, Zachary Thomas Ginn, inspiring him to achieve a black belt in Taekwondo at the remarkable age of 73.

Tom leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia; son David; daughter Elizabeth (and husband Jeremy); grandson Zach; and brother James “Jim” (and wife Donna) of Greenville, Illinois. His legacy will continue through all those he touched.
