We feel the very first step is hearing from members of the community and understanding their reservations.” The proposed annexation is designed to incorporate homes and businesses that residents currently travel outside the town to access, thereby enhancing local convenience.
The town council has set a goal of increasing the population to over 1,000 people. Achieving this milestone would qualify Pisgah for federal grant funding aimed at future infrastructure developments. Supporters of the annexation, like Davey Arnold, believe it is a necessary step toward improving the town’s quality of life. “I think it’s what’s best for our town and our community. We need basic amenities like roads, a gas station, and a grocery store. Small things like that are not too much to ask. I think the annexation can make it possible,” he remarked.
Opposition to the plan was voiced by residents like Mark Weekly, who raised concerns about the implications of annexation. Weekly warned that becoming part of the city limits could subject residents to increased zoning regulations and ordinances. “People don’t understand that once you’re part of the city limits, they could start telling you what to do,” he commented.
The town council plans to continue the discussion at the next council meeting, where they will address additional questions and concerns from the community. As residents weigh the potential benefits against their apprehensions, the outcome of this proposed annexation remains a critical topic for the future of Pisgah.
