Norma Jean Heard Wacaser, 90, Passes Away; Funeral Set for Feb. 23

BREAKING: Norma Jean Heard Wacaser, a beloved member of the Bainbridge community, has passed away at the age of 90. She died on February 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and service that touched many lives.

The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on February 23, 2026, at Fellowship Baptist Church, where she was a charter member. Pastor Marty Anderson and Pastor Stanley Phillips will officiate the ceremony. Friends and family are invited to gather beforehand from 10 to 10:45 a.m. to pay their respects.

Following the service, Norma will be laid to rest at the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers include John Cawvey, Arthur Chestnut, Ted Martin, Lee Putman, Angel Rosa, and Billy Wilson.

Norma Jean was born on October 10, 1935, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Ellie and Ruby Jewel Atkinson Heard. A proud graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1953, she married Curtis Wacaser in 1952 and dedicated her life to her family and community. She retired as a Field Office Manager from the Georgia Department of Labor, exemplifying commitment and service throughout her career.

She is survived by her son, Johnny Wacaser, and his wife Sharon, as well as her granddaughter, Leigh Ann, and great-grandchildren, Paxton and Grayson. Her family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Georgia Hospice, especially caregivers Kelly Haire and Danny Stephens, alongside daily caregivers Pearl Bradley, Angie Brown, Irene Franklin, Emma Frazier, and Nancy Ingram, for their compassionate support over the last six years.
