Studio 42 & Co. Opens New Arts Center in Manila with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

The Mississippi County Chamber of Commerce officially inaugurated Studio 42 & Co. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Manila on February 13, 2024. Founder Kennedy Baker expressed her excitement as her vision for a permanent home dedicated to the arts materialized. The establishment aims to provide a diverse range of artistic offerings, catering to individuals of all ages.

Over the past six months, Baker and her team of volunteers transformed a 35×60-foot space located at the corner of Baltimore and Olympia Streets into a vibrant arts center. The renovation process was aided significantly by Dale Murphy, whom Baker praised for his invaluable contributions.

As part of its mission, Studio 42 & Co. will host various programs including theater, music, art, and dance classes. The inaugural art class took place during the opening day, led by instructor Zoe McMinn, who guided three eager students in painting. Baker emphasized the importance of community engagement by encouraging everyone to follow the center’s upcoming events through its Facebook page.

Upcoming Events and Classes

The arts center is set to host several performances and classes in the coming months. Notably, the theater group will stage the musical Into the Woods from April 2 to April 5 at the Forum in Jonesboro. Additionally, they will present the play Rumors later in April, promising a dynamic theatrical experience for audiences.

Dance classes are also scheduled to begin in March, targeting children aged three to eighteen. Furthermore, art classes will be held on Fridays throughout February from 16:30 to 17:30. Those interested in participating can reach out via email at [email protected].

Baker’s vision for Studio 42 & Co. is to create a space that cultivates a variety of artistic expressions. “If there is an interest, we will do our best to provide it,” she stated. “With our new home, we will have a place to meet and to grow. I am looking forward to the possibilities.”

The ceremony was attended by key community figures, including Tracey Reinhart, the Mayor of Manila, along with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Kayla Russell and Samantha Drewett. Their presence underscored the community’s support for the new cultural initiative, aiming to enrich the artistic landscape of Main Street Manila.

Studio 42 & Co. is poised to become a significant contributor to the local arts scene, providing opportunities for creativity and collaboration among residents of all ages. As Baker noted, the center is not just about offering classes; it represents a commitment to fostering a love for the arts within the community.
