Tumwater Falls to Woodland in 2A District 4 Quarterfinal, 58-47

BREAKING: The Tumwater Thunderbirds suffered a tough loss to the Woodland Beavers in the 2A District 4 Quarterfinal, falling 58-47 on Friday night in Woodland. This defeat comes after a challenging second quarter where foul trouble plagued the Thunderbirds and allowed the Beavers to surge ahead.

After a strong start, Tumwater trailed by just five points at the end of the first quarter. However, Woodland exploded for 25 points in the second quarter, extending their lead to 11 points at halftime. Tumwater managed to close the gap to just two points midway through the third quarter, but Woodland finished strong, capping the game with an 18-9 run.

Foul trouble proved detrimental for Tumwater, as five players fouled out during the game. Maesyn Williams led the Thunderbirds with 13 points, while Kamryn Wilson contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Cadynce Lee added eight points and was pivotal on defense with five rebounds and four steals. Anden Demaris recorded seven points and 11 rebounds, while Raygen Cooper chipped in with three points. Claire Buono and Malia Eggers both scored two points, and Mya Burke added one point.

“Our girls fought hard, and we’re proud of their grit,” said Tumwater assistant coach Gabi Larson. “We’re ready for the next one.”

Looking ahead, Tumwater, now holding a record of 13-10, will face Ridgefield in a crucial elimination game on Monday. The stakes are high as the winner will advance to face the loser of the Black Hills-Mark Morris semifinal.
