Romance Tattoo Artist Takes Center Stage at LoveLitCon

A unique blend of literature and body art is on display at the inaugural LoveLitCon, where tattoo artist Bird showcases her romance-inspired tattoos. The convention, which takes place in March 2024, brings together fans from various genres, including romantasy enthusiasts and cozy fiction lovers, to celebrate their shared passion for books.

Bird, relatively new to the tattooing scene and with about four years of professional experience, completed her apprenticeship during the pandemic. Her fascination with tattooing began in childhood, inspired by her grandfather’s ink. Today, she works at Delicate Heart Tattoo and has carved out a niche that fuses her love for literature with her artistic talent.

From Fan Art to Body Art

Bird describes her artistic style as “Neo-Romantic,” merging elements of fantasy and emotion into her tattoos. The artist’s portfolio features intricate designs that reflect her passion for storytelling, with each piece telling a narrative through ink. Among her notable works is a tattoo of Manon Blackbeak, a character from Sarah J. Maas’s acclaimed “Throne of Glass” series. Initially uncertain whether fans would want such tattoos, Bird was pleasantly surprised when interest surged after she shared her fan art online.

“I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t know if people will get it tattooed, but they’ll know who this is, and they’ll like it,’” Bird recalled. The positive response confirmed her belief that the worlds of tattooing and literature could coexist harmoniously.

Bird’s presence at LoveLitCon is part of a growing trend where conventions feature tattoo artists alongside traditional vendors and authors. She has already begun booking appointments for the event, where fans can commemorate their favorite reads with personalized tattoos. “I love the chaos of the cons,” Bird shared. “I work great under pressure. It’s so fun to just know that every person that comes into my chair that day I have something in common with.”

Creating Lasting Memories

At LoveLitCon, Bird will offer various tattoo designs, including line art pieces such as a heart on fire, an open book with a mountain backdrop, and phrases like “Fireheart” from the “Throne of Glass” series. The tattoos typically take up to 30 minutes to complete, with prices ranging from $80 for smaller designs to $250 for larger ones.

Bird emphasizes that her work goes beyond mere aesthetics. “I think people who get bookish tattoos aren’t just getting a book,” she said. “It really is like symbolism within the book that they relate so heavily with, and with those characters.” This connection is what drives her passion for creating tattoos that resonate with clients’ personal narratives.

As LoveLitCon continues to grow, Bird’s unique approach to tattooing demonstrates how body art can serve as a powerful medium for self-expression and storytelling. For those attending the convention, the opportunity to walk away with a piece of art that reflects their favorite literary moments is an experience that promises to be memorable.

Bird invites fans to stop by her booth for a conversation, or to book a slot in advance. “There’s still time to sign up for a slot at my booth,” she noted, encouraging attendees to share their love for books and art in a space that celebrates both.
