Bethune-Cookman University Set for President’s Inauguration Events

URGENT UPDATE: Bethune-Cookman University has just announced the formal inauguration of Albert Mosley as its eighth president on April 14, 2024. This significant event marks a pivotal moment for the university, which has been under Mosley’s leadership since July 2023.

The investiture ceremony will take place at the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14. Doors will open at 9 a.m., but seating is limited, emphasizing the high demand for this important occasion.

Mosley, who previously served as president of Morningside University in Iowa, brings over 30 years of leadership experience in academic and nonprofit sectors. His commitment to the university’s mission is reflected in his statement about honoring the legacy of founder Mary McLeod Bethune: “As we honor her legacy, we are recommitting ourselves to ensuring Bethune-Cookman remains a place where opportunity is created, nurtured and sustained for generations to come.”

In addition to the inauguration ceremony, a series of events leading up to the investiture will engage the community. On April 12, 2024, a celebratory concert featuring the B-CU Concert Chorale and the B-CU Symphonic Band is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the same venue, with doors opening at 3 p.m.. This musical kickoff aims to create excitement around the presidential inauguration.

The following day, April 13, 2024, Mosley will spearhead a day of service, mobilizing hundreds of volunteers to assist nearly 50 nonprofits across Daytona Beach and Volusia County. This initiative underscores the university’s commitment to community engagement and the impact of higher education on local communities.

Later that evening, the Presidential Inaugural Scholarship Gala will take place at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort. The gala promises to be an inspiring event, featuring a keynote address from Michael Lomax, president and CEO of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Adding to the evening’s allure, Grammy Award-winning artist Yolanda Adams will perform, highlighting the intersection of education and cultural celebration.

Tickets and sponsorship opportunities for the gala and other events are available on the university’s official website, creating an opportunity for individuals and organizations to support scholarship initiatives aimed at raising $1 million for students confronting financial challenges.

As the university prepares for these momentous events, the B-CU community and supporters are encouraged to participate and share in this transformative time. Stay tuned for more updates as we cover the lead-up to this historic inauguration.
