Springfield Public School’s concert choir, led by Bailey Cords, is set to perform at the annual convention of the Minnesota Music Education Association on February 13, 2024. This prestigious invitation highlights the choir’s reputation, with the performance themed “Rise Together in Song—Celebrating Music Education in a Rural Community.” This honor marks a significant return, as the choir previously performed at the same event in 1993.
Academic Achievements Recognized
In addition to the musical accomplishments, several students from the region have recently achieved notable academic honors. At Iowa State University in Ames, Brenden Paul Humbard from New Ulm graduated with a bachelor of science degree in animal science during the fall semester.
Catherine Cummings from Mankato was recognized on the fall dean’s list at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb. This honor is awarded to students who achieve a minimum semester grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
At Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Saige Isaacson from New Ulm earned a place on the president’s list of high distinction for the fall term. To qualify, students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher while enrolled in six or more credits in an associate degree or technical diploma program.
Recognition at University Level
Emily Frutos Krueger from Mankato also achieved academic honors at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. She was named to both the dean’s list and the president’s list. The dean’s list acknowledges students with a GPA of at least 3.0, while the president’s list recognizes those achieving a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
These achievements reflect the dedication and talent present within the Springfield community, showcasing both musical and academic excellence. As the choir prepares for their upcoming performance, these students exemplify the commitment to education and the arts that defines their rural environment.
