New Jersey Man, 39, Arrested for Producing Child Sex Abuse Materials

UPDATE: A 39-year-old man from Old Bridge, New Jersey, has been arrested for producing child sexual abuse materials, posing as a teenager on Snapchat, authorities confirm. Daniel Berwick was taken into custody on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 after a thorough investigation led by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Berwick faces serious charges, including first-degree production of child sexual abuse material, second-degree manufacturing and possession of child sexual abuse material, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He allegedly deceived victims by using someone else’s photos and videos to impersonate a 17-year-old boy on Snapchat.

Authorities began their investigation following a cyber tip from the New Jersey State Police. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Old Bridge Police Department and the FBI Newark Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, collaborated to uncover Berwick’s illicit activities.

Law enforcement officials emphasize the gravity of this case, as it highlights the dangers young people face online.

“This arrest is a clear example of our commitment to protecting children from exploitation,”

said a spokesperson from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Currently, Berwick is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing. The authorities urge anyone with additional information regarding the case to contact Detective Ken McGarry at 732-745-3140.

As this case develops, it serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with social media platforms.
