Ciarán Hinds Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at IFTA

The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) has announced that renowned Irish actor Ciarán Hinds will receive the prestigious Irish Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement. This honor recognizes Hinds’ exceptional contributions to both Irish and international film over a remarkable 50-year career. The award will be presented during the 23rd IFTA Awards ceremony on February 20, 2024, at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre, where colleagues, family, and friends will gather to celebrate his accomplishments.

The event will be hosted by comedian and actor Kevin McGahern. Hinds, who is an Oscar nominee and has received multiple nominations for Golden Globe and BAFTA awards, also boasts five IFTA wins. His extensive filmography includes collaborations with celebrated directors such as Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Kathryn Bigelow, and Paul Thomas Anderson.

In a statement, IFTA highlighted the significance of Hinds’ career, noting his work alongside some of the most respected actors in the industry, including Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Liam Neeson, and Julia Roberts. The Academy praised him for his versatility and depth as a performer, stating, “Ciarán Hinds is a modest giant and gentleman of an actor, who has deservedly become one of the most highly-respected and versatile actors of his generation.”

Hinds expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, “I am deeply grateful to IFTA for this recognition – their support for the cinematic and televisual arts over the past twenty years and more has been immense and I am truly honored to receive it.”

The IFTA has a history of honoring distinguished figures in the industry, with previous Lifetime Achievement recipients including Colm Meaney, Stephen Rea, and internationally acclaimed actors like Judi Dench and Gabriel Byrne.
