A surgeon has been arrested in connection with the double murder of an Ohio couple found dead in their home on December 30, 2023. Michael David McKee, 39, the ex-husband of Monique Tepe, was taken into custody in the Chicago area, according to police records. He faces two counts of murder in Ohio after the bodies of Spencer Tepe, 37, and Monique Tepe, 39, were discovered with gunshot wounds.
Columbus police responded to a wellness check at the couple’s home in Weinland Park around 10:00 a.m. on the day of the incident. Upon arrival, officers found the couple deceased inside the residence. Fortunately, the couple’s children were found safe in the home.
Authorities reported no signs of forced entry and did not recover a weapon at the scene. Investigators believe the murders occurred between 02:00 and 05:00 a.m. on December 30.
According to court documents, police linked McKee to the crime through a vehicle seen entering the Tepes’ neighborhood shortly before the murders and leaving shortly afterward. This vehicle was later found in Rockford, Illinois, and evidence confirmed it belonged to McKee.
The tragic event occurred just weeks before the couple’s five-year wedding anniversary. Rob Misleh, Spencer’s brother-in-law, expressed his sorrow, describing the situation as “heartbreaking beyond words.” He emphasized the couple’s loving nature, noting that they were “extraordinary people whose lives were filled with love, joy, and deep connection to others.”
McKee’s history reveals a complex background; he and Monique were married in 2015, and their divorce was finalized in 2017. Since then, he has lived in various states, including Virginia, Nevada, and Illinois. Currently, he works as a vascular surgeon in the Rockford area.
Video footage released by the Columbus Division of Police shows a person of interest walking in an alley near the Tepes’ home during the early hours of December 30. The individual, captured wearing a dark coat and light-colored pants, has not yet been identified.
As the investigation continues, the couple’s family released a statement mourning their loss. They depicted Spencer as a devoted and proud father, a loving partner, and a friend to all who knew him.
The circumstances surrounding the murders remain under investigation, and police are actively pursuing leads in the case. Further updates are expected as officials gather more information.
