Visually Impaired Kids Experience Monster Jam Up Close in Orlando

A group of visually impaired children and teenagers from Lighthouse Central Florida enjoyed a unique sensory experience with Monster Jam trucks on January 9, 2025. The event, held at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, allowed participants to engage with the massive vehicles in a hands-on environment during a blind Touch-A-Truck event.

During the event, attendees had the opportunity to feel the trucks and listen to the powerful engines rev up as the drivers showcased their vehicles. The highlight was a demonstration by driver Camden Murphy, who piloted the Classroom Crusher truck around the stadium, providing a thrilling auditory experience for the kids and their families.

Engagement and Excitement for All

Children like Kaiser Peters were thrilled as they touched the tires of the Grave Digger truck, while others, such as Jeayda Gardner, expressed surprise at the smoothness of the Classroom Crusher, which contradicted their expectations of a rough ride. The emotional engagement was palpable, with many participants clapping and cheering as the trucks roared to life.

Driver Cynthia Gauthier assisted ten-year-old Connor Lehman in getting close to her truck, Lucas Stabilizer, creating personal connections between the drivers and the young fans. “To have them come hear these beasts in person is super cool,” said Murphy, reflecting on his own childhood experiences attending Monster Jam events. “It’s exciting to give these kids a unique experience.”

The sensory engagement went beyond just sound and touch. Family members also participated, helping to create a supportive environment. Lauren Barry, a volunteer, provided additional ear protection to ensure comfort during the loud demonstrations.

Anticipation for the Main Event

This event served as a precursor to the main Monster Jam event scheduled for the following night, where the trucks will compete in head-to-head races and perform stunts over dirt mounds and ramps. With more than 12,000 pounds of machinery soaring through the air, excitement is building for the showcase. Fans are expected to fill the stadium, eager to witness the thrilling performances of their favorite trucks.

The partnership between Monster Jam and Lighthouse Central Florida not only highlights the importance of inclusivity but also showcases how community events can create memorable experiences for individuals with disabilities. As the roar of the engines and the thrill of the competition fill the air, the anticipation for the upcoming event continues to grow.
