UPDATE: In a thrilling overtime clash, the Willmar Cardinals secured a dramatic 3-2 victory against the River Lakes Stars on Saturday night at the River Lakes Civic Arena. Maya Cameron emerged as the hero, netting two goals, including the game-winner just 3 minutes and 36 seconds into overtime, breaking the Cardinals’ six-game winless streak.
This crucial win marks Willmar’s first victory in the Central Lakes Conference, improving their record to 1-4-1 in the conference and 4-10-1 overall. The Stars, on the other hand, are now 3-3-1 in the conference, holding an overall record of 7-7-1.
Cameron’s pivotal second goal at 7:47 of the second period tied the game at 1-1 after Makayla Schrieber-Horn opened the scoring for River Lakes with a power-play goal at 4:52. The Cardinals then took a brief lead with a goal from Parker Rucks at 12:52. However, River Lakes fought back as Bella Stang scored to tie the game at 1:08 of the third period.
With emotions running high, Bryn Behr, the junior goaltender for Willmar, showcased an incredible performance, making 50 saves out of 52 shots for a stellar 0.962 save percentage.

Looking ahead, River Lakes will face Alexandria at 7:15 p.m. Monday at the Runestone Community Center, while Willmar is set to play Alexandria at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the same venue.
