At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, police officials reported hearing a single gunshot echoing from within the parking lot. San Pablo police Capt. James Laughter stated, “We then located a male subject lying on the ground with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” The individual was immediately transported to a nearby hospital and is currently listed in critical condition, according to KTVU FOX 2.
The original incident that triggered this emergency unfolded on Monday at 1:45 p.m. at an IHOP located in the 3400 block of Klose Way. The victim, who was known to the shooter, was fatally injured during the altercation. Initially, coworkers believed the victim had suffered an accident, but firefighters quickly identified the situation as suspicious, prompting them to call law enforcement to the scene.
As the investigation deepened, the person of interest approached an officer at the police department but left after a language barrier hindered communication. Just moments later, he turned the gun on himself, creating a chaotic scene at the police station.
