BREAKING: A police chase in San Ramon, California, late Sunday night resulted in an injured officer and the arrest of two suspects, with a manhunt underway for two additional individuals. The dramatic pursuit, linked to a series of auto burglaries, left a fire hydrant destroyed and significant damage in the area of Kyler Court and Kyler Lane.
Witnesses reported hearing sirens followed by a loud crash. “I looked outside and saw the fire hydrant blasting in the air,” said local resident Adam Bieneman. The incident unfolded as police investigated suspects believed to be responsible for a number of vehicle thefts across the East Bay region.
According to Lt. Leysy Pelayo of the San Ramon Police Department, officers received a tip-off that the suspects were returning to the site where a stolen vehicle had already been abandoned. “The four subjects fled in the vehicle, striking a total of four of our patrol cars,” Pelayo stated.
The chaos escalated when one of the fleeing vehicles pinned the injured officer’s leg against a door frame. “The car hit the driver’s door on the way out,” Pelayo confirmed. Fortunately, the officer is expected to recover, but the incident underscores the dangers law enforcement faces during such pursuits.
Authorities apprehended two of the suspects at the scene, while the hunt continues for the remaining two. The arrested individuals face multiple charges, including hit-and-run related to the injured officer, possession of stolen property, and vehicle burglary.
Police are committed to ensuring all individuals involved are identified and brought to justice. “We’re being proactive to make sure that we end up identifying the people responsible and apprehending them,” Pelayo added.
This urgent situation highlights the ongoing issue of vehicle thefts in the area and the proactive measures law enforcement is taking to combat crime. Residents are advised to stay vigilant as the search for the remaining suspects is underway.
