Daisy Ridley is set to captivate audiences once again with her upcoming film, We Bury the Dead, a horror thriller scheduled for release on January 2, 2026. As the star of this chilling tale, she recently shared insights about her next projects during an interview at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival. This conversation with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt revealed not only her excitement for We Bury the Dead but also hints at her future endeavors in various genres.

Upcoming Projects and Genre Exploration

In We Bury the Dead, Ridley portrays a woman searching for her missing husband after a military experiment goes awry. As she joins a body retrieval unit, the plot thickens when the dead start to rise, plunging her into a nightmarish scenario. Directed and written by Zak Hilditch, the film also features Brenton Thwaites, Mark Coles Smith, Kym Jackson, and Matt Whelan.

Looking ahead, Ridley has confirmed her involvement in an action thriller titled The Good Samaritan. Directed by Pierre Morel and written by Matthew Ian Cirulnick, the film presents Ridley as a doctor and entrepreneur who, while yachting off the coast of Indonesia, rescues a wounded man. This impulsive act leads her on a perilous journey, pursued by pirates and corrupt officials, where she must rely on a mercenary with a mysterious background to save her husband. Filming is set to commence in Australia next year.

Ridley expressed her enthusiasm for the script, stating, “It’s an amazing script, and they’re in the process of getting my co-stars around me, which is very exciting.” This project marks yet another genre shift for Ridley, who has ventured through science fiction, biopics, thrillers, and horror.

A New Romantic Comedy and Musical Aspirations

In addition to action thrillers, Ridley is also stepping into the romantic comedy space with her film The Last Resort. In this project, she plays a hotel executive searching for a new resort location in the Philippines, where her journey unexpectedly leads to romance with a local pilot. The film features a talented cast, including Tia Carrere, Sam Neill, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Beck Bennett, and is anticipated for release early next year.

Beyond these films, Ridley has set her sights on the musical genre. She revealed, “I really wanted to do a rom-com, and I did a rom-com this year. That was great. I really wanna do a musical.” Ridley mentioned she has read an “incredible, incredible original musical,” which she described as “beautiful and wonderful,” indicating her eagerness to expand her artistic repertoire.

As her career continues to evolve, Daisy Ridley is poised to explore new creative avenues while captivating audiences with her versatile performances. Fans can look forward to her upcoming projects, which promise a mix of thrilling narratives and heartfelt moments.
