In a series of exciting matchups in Texas high school girls’ basketball, the Longview Lady Lobos, Pine Tree Lady Pirates, and Spring Hill Panthers all celebrated important victories. These games highlighted impressive individual performances and strong team efforts.
Longview dominated Forney with a decisive 58-40 win in District 10-6A play. The Lady Lobos jumped out to an early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead by 12 points. Leading the charge was Jailiyah Rockmore, who scored 15 points. Supporting her were Bethany Baltes with nine points, including three successful three-pointers, and Terri Sparkman and Kaydence Porter who each contributed eight points. Porter also showcased her skills on the boards with 12 rebounds, while Maya Ward added four assists and two steals. The Lady Lobos will next compete in the Duncanville Tournament from January 29-31 before returning to district play against Tyler Legacy on January 6.
In another District 16-4A encounter, the Pine Tree Lady Pirates triumphed over the Henderson Lady Lions with a score of 62-51. Addison Edmond and Jazmin Johnson were instrumental in this victory, combining for 29 points, with Edmond netting 15 and Johnson scoring 14. Kadyn Brown added nine points while also grabbing nine rebounds. For Henderson, Kenidii Hogg was the standout player, scoring 23 points in a losing effort. Pine Tree, now positioned at 9-10 overall and 2-0 in the district, will participate in the Quitman Tournament on December 29-30 before returning to action against Chapel Hill on January 2.
The Spring Hill Panthers achieved a commanding victory over Cumberland Academy, winning 67-14. Elizabeth Corbitt led the Panthers with 16 points, while Savannah Irwin contributed 10. The team’s overall performance improved their record to 13-5, with plans to compete in the Hawkins Tournament on December 29-30 before facing Kilgore on January 2.
In a close match, Kilgore outperformed Gilmer with a score of 52-42. Serenity Oliver and Makayla Jackson played crucial roles, with Jackson securing 12 rebounds. Both Ayuana Duncan Morgan and Camara Duncan Morgan scored 10 points, including a pivotal buzzer-beater three-pointer from Camara to end the third quarter.
The Tatum Lady Eagles opened their District 16-3A campaign with a 40-33 victory against White Oak. Freshman Emma Dygert shone with 11 points, eight steals, and five rebounds, helping her team to overcome a halftime deficit. The Eagles outscored White Oak 17-7 in the third quarter to secure their win.
In another district clash, Sabine rallied to defeat Troup 36-24. After trailing early, Sabine managed to tie the game at halftime and outperformed Troup in the second half. Jayda Lewis led Sabine with nine points, while Madison Pierce added six.
The Hudson Lady Hornets showcased their dominance with a 63-30 win over the New Diana Lady Eagles. With a strong first quarter performance, they built a significant lead that they maintained throughout the game.
In a competitive District 16-3A matchup, the Arp Lady Tigers defeated West Rusk 52-44, while Hawkins topped McLeod 52-38, led by Ava Ellison who scored 19 points.
The Cushing Lady Kats prevailed against Overton 43-37, despite a late surge from Overton. Sabrina Deckard performed exceptionally, scoring 26 points, including key baskets in the fourth quarter.
