UPDATE: A St. George woman has been arrested following a shocking DUI incident that left a bicyclist critically injured. Lacie Nikole Winder, 26, was taken into custody after hitting a male bicyclist at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of 1300 West Sunset Boulevard.
Witnesses report that Winder struck the cyclist with her car, leaving him unresponsive on the ground. Emergency responders arrived to find the victim in dire condition, currently on life support with no brain activity reported. This tragic event raises urgent questions about road safety and the implications of impaired driving.
According to booking documents from the St. George Police, Winder admitted to officers that she was delivering pizza when the incident occurred. She claimed she did not see the cyclist before impact. During questioning, Winder revealed she had smoked marijuana prior to driving and possessed a valid medical marijuana card. However, she later disclosed that the marijuana was sourced from Nevada, which violates local laws.
After a field sobriety test, police took Winder to the St. George Police Department for further interrogation. During this process, she admitted to using marijuana at her boyfriend’s residence, prompting authorities to obtain a search warrant for the home. The search uncovered various drug paraphernalia and a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Winder’s boyfriend, Quintin Namana, 26, was also arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and other related charges. Both are currently held in custody at the Washington County Jail.
As of now, the victim’s family is facing an agonizing wait as medical teams monitor his condition. The community is left grappling with the consequences of this devastating accident. Winder is being held without bail as the investigation continues.
Authorities urge drivers to remain vigilant and sober behind the wheel, emphasizing the severe risks associated with impaired driving. The situation remains fluid, and updates are expected as the police investigation unfolds.
