URGENT UPDATE: High winds have forced the delay of garbage and recycling collection in Fargo, originally scheduled for Thursday, December 18, 2023. Collection services will now take place on Friday, as strong gusts have hindered operations and created hazardous conditions.
Officials report that multiple bins were pushed onto sidewalks and streets, complicating the collection process. Jen Pickett, recycling supervisor with the city, stated that eight garbage trucks and three recycling trucks began their routes at the usual time of 8 a.m. but were forced to halt operations around 12:30 p.m. due to dangerous weather conditions.
“It’s frustrating and really time-consuming, because eight out of the ten cans on the street are probably tipped over,” Pickett explained. “That means they are jumping out to stand it up, empty it, and then move on and so forth.”
If your trash and recycling were not picked up on Thursday, residents are advised to ensure that their bins are out by 8 a.m. Friday, weather permitting. The city is making every effort to resume normal services as quickly as possible.
This disruption is a reminder of how severe weather can impact daily routines and services. The city urges all residents to stay updated on local conditions and to exercise caution while moving around the area.
As this situation develops, further updates will be provided. Stay tuned for the latest information on trash and recycling services in Fargo as officials monitor the weather closely.
